The Faculty of Information and Communication Studies is pleased to announce openings for four tenure-track positions up to the rank of full Professor and eight contractual positions at the rank of Assistant Professor (renewable annually). We are excited to field applications from candidates with a background in any the following fields and disciplines:

Preferred start date for faculty positions is ASAP but negotiable.

Salary

Salaries for the position are based on the rank assigned to a successful candidate and are calculated using the the standard salary scale for UP faculty. Four of the contractual positions are set at a maximum of Assistant Professor 1 and the other four are at Assistant Professor 5. The four tenure-track positions are available up to the rank of Professor.

Successful candidates also receive all benefits to which all Philippine government employees are entitled.

About the UPOU-FICS

The UPOU-FICS has undergraduate (BA in Multimedia Studies) and graduate (Diploma in Computer Science, Master of Information Systems, Master of Development Communication, Doctor of Communication) programs with about 1,100 students and 11 full-time and 21 affiliate and adjunct faculty members. Please note that all positions are full-time. The successful candidate cannot hold any full-time work engagements outside of UPOU.

Responsibilities

Your primary responsibility would be teaching selected undergraduate and/or graduate courses from the FICS’ existing degree programs as well as future planned degree programs in digital art and media, computer science, and data science.

You are expected to undertake research or creative work, head research programs, and apply for research grants provided internally (by the UPOU and the University of the Philippines System) and externally. Your eligibility for promotion is based largely on your ability to publish high-quality research or produce impactful creative work.

In addition to teaching and research, UP Faculty are expected to contribute to public service and to participate in the administration of the university, including the following:

Offline and online presence

While faculty at UPOU can work off-site far more often than their counterparts in residential universities, it is expected that they should be able to report in-person at the UPOU headquarters in Los Baños and/or at our satellite office in Diliman regularly. Currently, full-time faculty report in-person on average 1-3 times a week. Those who are assigned major administrative responsibilities may find it necessary to report more often that this.
